Chris Ward Clarifies "Condomless" Scenes

Raging Stallion head Chris Ward contacted me early this evening regarding my piece on the studio's forthcoming almost-looks-like-condomless scenes. He defined the studio's stance on barebacking and clarified the "condomless" details during our conversation.

CW: Several people have written me to say that you were somewhat upset about my blog entry on less visible condoms. I thought I would clarify what may be a misunderstanding. The condoms are visible much of the time, and all of the time if you look closely enough. We are taking special care to eroticize putting on the condoms. They are completely visible to everyone on each insertion and pull out. We are only able to do this on guys with very long dicks -- in short, the condom only covers the bottom half of their shaft, so when they fuck we have them not pull out as far. No one will mistake these for bareback movies. Raging Stallion does not produce bareback movies and we are as committed as ever to safe sex. We always use safe sex on our porn sets and strongly advise that everyone practice safe sex at all times. This has been taken up by the media in a way that does not accurately reflect the facts. None of us -- you or I -- want to see bareback movies gain an even larger market share of our industry.

JS: Chris, I don't mind at all! (laughing) I love bareback movies! I just say, if you're going to promote bareback sex, make bareback movies. I do see what you're saying though about not "promoting" it, per se. Yet at the same time, I wonder why do it if you're taking such care to show putting the condom ON in the first place. Doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose ultimately?

CW: The purpose is not to make the viewer think that there are no condoms. This, I think, is the point upon which I am being misunderstood. When I watched a recent European movie I saw them using bright green, blue, and red condoms. I found this distracting. By using a certain type of flesh-toned condom with certain types of lube and lighting, you can no longer see the bright shine of the condoms in some of our movies. But if you look close you will see the condoms.

JS: So in essence, nothing's really changed. It's still made very clear from the start of the scene that there is a condom including insertion shots. It's just made a little less visable throughout the scene?

CW: You are exactly correct.

JS: Thank you for taking the time to clarify. So if there is no chance of mistaking these for bareback scenes, then in all honesty, would you say that these clarifications are a far cry from your original blog statements: "You will soon see scenes from us that have what looks more and more like condomless fucking," and that this "may change the industry as we know it"?

CW: I think I have been very clear on this. Raging Stallion exclusively supports safe sex films. One of our main competitors is fanning this fire, so I would rather just let my films speak for themselves when they are released. No one will have anything to worry about at that time.
