How Maxx Diesel Became Christian (...And How Maxx Was Born)

The stud once known as Maxx Diesel, now famed as straight male porn star Christian, has decided to tell the story of his ascent into the adult entertainment world, which he claims "all began with an email to Chi Chi LaRue." The former high school basketball coach told the entire story over the weekend in his his blog at ChristianSingstheBlues.com.

Here's his story, in his own words, in full:

Let's start at the beginning. I was born in Burlington, Vermont on May 8, 1974.

My parents were both in the Air Force and I am the first born. I have 2 younger brothers who are 2 years and 4 years younger than myself. We moved to Texas soon after I was born and lived there until I graduated high school.

My parents are still married after 35 years, and are staunchly conservative Republicans. My father is a retired lieutenant colonel and doctor who runs a biochemistry/pathology clinic. My mother is a research nurse who also works at the same hospital. They are obviously not very happy with how my career has turned out, but they trust me to make the right decisions for myself. I love them very much.

I have always been an athlete. I began playing basketball in 2nd grade, along with football, baseball, and swim team. I stopped playing football in 8th grade (it sucks when you are a tight end on a bad team that runs a lot). I stopped playing baseball in 5th grade when I was playing first base and saw our third baseman take a line drive off the forehead. No thank you sir.

I continued to swim all the way to high school, and ultimately only stopped when it interfered with basketball. Basketball has always come natural to me, I played it obsessively throughout my formative years. As I grew taller and taller (finally stopping at 6'5), my skills grew as well.

I was the leading scorer on 2 really bad teams in middle school, then when I got to high school my abilities really took off. I led the team in scoring as a freshman, and then led the team in scoring and rebounding again as a sophomore on the junior varsity. My junior year was my first on the varsity team, and I kicked ass, averaging 17 points and 8 rebounds.

Things were really looking up for my senior year, until my father was sent to Operation Desert Storm and overseas. It was really tough not having my father around, and I had a truly horrible season. Luckily, I played well enough in the post season all-star games and camps to gain a scholarship to a Division II school in rural central Texas, Tarleton State University.

TSU was an eye-opening experience, and not in a good way. Basketball was fun, we went 29-6 and I played in almost every game as a freshman. But the school itself was brutal. Let me give you a few examples of why. I should have known I was in trouble during freshman orientation when we had to sit through a 30 minute lecture on the dangers of dipping and chewing.

Then there was the spittoons in the elevators on campus. Every vehicle in my dorm was a truck except for mine (I drove a sweeeet Mercury Grand Marquis...lol). There was a mechanical bull on campus that was available for any student to practice on. Are you catching the drift about the redneckishness of this place? About 20 miles outside of town, there was a diner with no windows on it called the Koffee Kup Kafe (hmmmmm).

This was the school that you go to if you are TOO country for Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University. lol. After a year of being subjected to smelling dead animals in the backs of pickup trucks, I decided to move back to San Antonio and I walked on to the University of Texas at San Antonio Roadrunner basketball team.

My 4 years at UTSA were the greatest years of my life I think. I met virtually all of my close friends, Darren, Rick, JJ, Tom, Jason, Larry, Steve, and Kevin. I lived on campus because my family had moved to Dallas a year previous (thank god, who wants to live at home in college? bleah). Basketball was so much fun, I didn't play much, I did a lot of clapping and cheering from the bench, but I still had a great time. Let me put it this way, the girls at the parties don't ever ask you what your scoring average is.

I met a girl named Carla, who played both basketball and volleyball, and I fell head over heels in love with her. She was 5'11 and was in incredible shape. We quickly moved in together and dated for about 2 years until I graduated in 1997 with my Bachelor's degree in History and minor in Political Science.

After graduation, I accepted a position as the Graduate Assistant Basketball Coach at a Division II school in San Antonio, the University of the Incarnate Word (oh the irony). Basically they paid for my graduate school work and paid me about 500 bucks a month to learn how to be a college basketball coach. It was a tough, tough year for many reasons. My relationship with Carla came to an end, I worked about 80-90 hours a week, and absolutely HATED the head coach (and the assistant coach to some extent). I was really the basketball secretary, especially when the head coach learned that I typed over 80 words a minute and was very computer savvy. After a year in slavery and hating graduate school, I left my job in the summer.

I was immediately hired as the assistant coach at Northeast Oklahoma A&M, a junior college in Miami, Oklahoma (population 10,000). It was a tiny junior college nestled on the 4 state border (OK, KS, AK, MO). I loved it there, basketball wise, we were 22-11 and all 5 starters signed with Division I schools. I learned a lot about coaching under Coach Spencer, but damn I just couldn't live in a town of 10,000 people in the middle of nowhere. Not to mention I made exactly 10,000 dollars that year and had my room and board paid for as long as I lived in the university dorm and ate in the school cafeteria (yikes). So I left that situation as well and moved back to San Antonio.

I then decided to go back to school to finish my course work in eduction at UTSA. I was a student-teacher at Highlands High School and then got my first real teaching job at Natalia Middle School (a tiny town about 30 minutes south of San Antonio).

It was a temporary position because the real teacher had to leave at the semester break and they couldn't get anyone else to take the job (mostly because it paid 24,500 a year). It was a learning experience, and it taught me valuable lessons in terms of the daily grind of being a teacher. My contract wasn't renewed for the next year, which I was happy about because the money was so bad. I moved to Dallas at this time, and started working as a bouncer at a popular nightclub there called the Red Jacket in Lower Greenville. I loved working there, the money was good, I had plenty of time to train and I worked 4 days a week (to mention I met tons and tons of hot and easy chicks).

I probably would have worked there for a long time, but one day my good friend Rob called me out of the blue and told me that he just accepted the position of head basketball coach at Brazoswood High School and that he wanted me to join him as his assistant coach! The pay was good (38,500 yearly) so I said yes and moved to Lake Jackson, Texas (about 30 minutes south of Houston).

I taught US History and US Government to 11th and 12th graders, and it was a lot of fun. I love teaching young people, not only about History and Government, but about life lessons as well (insert the easy porn/child molestation jokes here). The basketball team was fucking horrible however, and we struggled with each loss. I was there for 2 years, and it was fun teaching and coaching, but so hard on me personally. I had a little one bedroom apartment by myself in a town of 25,000 people who were mostly married conservatives.

The clubs all closed at midnight and there were very few single people. There was only one gym in the area, Family Fitness, who didn't allow any cutoff shirts at the gym. lol. Each summer I would return to Dallas to work at the Red Jacket for extra cash, and one summer in 2002 I decided to work at a club in Vegas for the summer and stay with my cousin at his house.

So I drove out to Vegas and got a job at the Ra nightclub in Luxor. It was fucking incredible, so many people, so much fun, and so much money! Time has no meaning in Vegas, and I had an incredible summer. So incredible that I quit my position as a teacher and moved to Vegas full time. It was here that I sent that fateful email to Chi Chi Larue that started my strange journey in the world of the adult industry.

I had dated Lovette in 2000, when we met while staying at the same hotel in San Francisco while on vacation from teaching. We really hit it off, and she took me to the Tampa show, where I got my first taste of the business. Lovette was fucking incredible, her boobs and her body were unbelievable! I had a blast. I went to LA with her once as well, and actually sat in the old AIM clinic on Ventura while she got tested.

So lets fast forward back to Vegas. I was working 4 nights a week at the Lite nightclub in Bellagio and making good money. So I had a lot of free time. I knew that Chi Chi directed for Vivid, so I sent him an email asking to be a performer in Vivid movies (I knew I could do it from being in a bunch of orgies in Tampa with such old school stars as Anna Malle, Sarenna Lee, Anita Cannibal, and Julie Rage. It was glorious!).

And I included pictures of myself at the time (I was in fantastic shape from the triathlons....more of those in another entry). He wrote back that in order to be a male performer, you have to live in LA, but that he also happened to direct for Falcon Pictures (the Vivid of gay porn). He asked me if I was interested. I said no, I had never been with a guy before.

Then he offered me airfare to San Francisco for a weekend, a hotel room, and 2200 dollars for the scene. I was like "who's gonna know?" and the money seemed right, so I said yes. I flew up there and did my first scene. It wasn't as bad as I thought, basically I just stood there and then laid on my back, they did all the work.

After that first scene, I had no plans to do any more, but Chi Chi came back a few months later and asked me if I would sign a contract stating that I would perform in 5 scenes in a year exclusively for Falcon. Again, in hindsight, my life would be a lot simpler if I had not done these scenes, but honestly I didn't think it was that big a deal.

I enjoyed the taboo aspect of it all, the people who worked at Falcon were awesome, also they shot a movie in London and paid for everything there for a week (this started my love affair with London by the way). The money was fantastic, 2500 per scene and a bonus of 4000 dollars for finishing the 5 scenes.

I enjoyed my time at Falcon, but honestly, I like women in my personal life not men, and wanted to enjoy women on camera as well. So at AVN 2004, I wandered around the convention and asked anyone who was a director for a chance.

Skye Blue gave me my first scene, and I just took it from there (coincidentally, she is a total bitch to me all the time now, and I have no idea why, which is sad because I feel I owe her alot). I did 5 more gay scenes after my contract ended, but as I got more popular in straight porn, I stopped doing gay porn all together after a grand total of 11 scenes (which would all come back to haunt me later on).

While at AVN in 2004, I also met Joey Silvera, a director for Evil Angel, who shoots shemales for a couple of lines. He asked me if I would be willing to do a scene with a shemale and a girl together, and I said, "sure, why not?" So myself, Danielle Foxxx, and Christie Lee did a scene together that was a lot of fun and really kinky. Again, I had no idea that so many people were going to get sketched out by any of this. The gay porn was all condom and the shemales were all tested at AIM just like us. I was also dating Lisa Lipps at this time (do you guys see the connection between girlfriends yet?) and so I thought it was really obvious that I like women and not men. Boy was I mistaken.

So I toiled in the business in relative obscurity for 2004 and early 2005, I worked for Joe at AMA, Richie Zaye at Northstar, Robbie D at Digital Playground (I will always be thankful for Robbie giving me the opportunity to work with Devon and Jesse Jane!), and a few others.

In early 2005 I made the decision to move to LA and become a porn performer full time. A director for Devil's Films, Mike Metropolis, rented me a room at his house and I lived there for a year while I solidified my life in this business. I was dating Katie Gold at this time, and Dick Nasty was my agent. I suffered the same bumps and bruises that many male performers experience getting involved in this business, and it was during 2005 that many people became aware of where I got my start. This meant that I was an easy target for a lot of people to take potshots at me. My future in the business was rocky and uncertain at best.

But in 2006, I established myself as a solid male performer and I was working about 20 times a month (and I was dating Davia Ardell). It was the first year in my life that I made more than 100,000 dollars and it felt GREAT! I was nominated for best male newcomer and had 2 of my scene nominated as well. It was also during this time that I realized just how controversial I was.

No one had ever been a gay contract performer and made it as a straight male performer since Peter North/Matt Ramsey waaay back in the day. Many of the male performers had done gay porn, but they kept it under wraps and either refused to acknowledge it or said it wasn't them to avoid industry backlash (see TJ Cummings/Nick Steel). This wasn't really my style, I am not a secretive person, and further more, no one tells me what to do with my life but me. I joined LA Direct Models during this year as well and with their help, increased my status as a leading male performer.

Last year was a tremendous year for me. I worked 25 times a month every month (281 scenes total) for the year, and I worked with many of the top girls in the business. I won my second AVN award for Best Group Sex Scene and hopefully I will win a few more in the coming years. I had to endure a lot of abuse from anonymous internet haters (see multiple threads on xxxporntalk and adult dvd talk), but I have persevered and rose above all of that.

There are still a few girls (and guys) who continue to think that I have major cooties for some reason, but overall, they can't fuck with me anymore, I am too popular. I have worked with many of the top girls in the business including brianna banks, savanna samson, lisa ann, stefani morgan, monique alexander, shay jordan, hillary scott, alexis amore, nina hartley, audrey hollander, carmen hart, bree olson, shyla stylez, carmella bing, eva angelina, jesse jane, jessica jaymes, and devon. I visited London 5 times (thanks Ben English!) and basically led a charmed life where life is always good. :)

This year is going to be a transition year for me. I will continue to save money, rebuild my credit, and live comfortably in my little condo just north of the valley. Haters will continue to hate, and I will continue to do my thing until I choose to do something different. You can't change the ignorant people in the business, you just have to work around them.
