Catalina Video's "Billboard"

I feel a little weird about reviewing Catalina Video's re-release of the movie, Billboard, so I'm not really going to. Made in 1989, your's truly was only 9 years old when this classic collaboration of director Chi Chi LaRue and the late, great gay porn superstar Joey Stefano was originally released -- so I don't really have a lot to compare it to. The interesting thing for me was the way in which some things have changed and the way some things have stayed the same.

LaRue really went the extra mile with her movies, even in the late 80's, and I'm guessing that's something not every director was doing. Hell, it's not something every director is doing today. But LaRue seemed to try to string together a plot, creating believable sets and have the actors deliver real dialogue in between capturing some incredibly hot sex romps.

Our desire for the "dirty" has certanly been upped in the past 19 years. Today, the gaping holes, the barebacking, the pissing, seems what sells -- and here there's not even any spitting and maybe one rim job in the entire flick.

What hasn't changed is the format! Five sex scenes. Two threesomes. A little dialogue between each. If there's a plot, something in the first few minutes unresolved that in the last few minutes is resolved, often without words.

Andrew Michaels and Mike Moore take turns fucking long-haired blonde boy Dusty. Michaels shows up later for an especially hot scene with Chris Ramsey where the two pour water coolers over each other in jock straps to "cool down" before heating things up!

Joey Stefano plays an artist here, but it's he who is the work of art in the movie, stealing the scene from all others, the highlight being the grand finale romp with fellow box cover stud Vic Summers. Just one of many performances, I'm sure, that made Stefano such a legendary name in the gay adult movie business.

Stefano also gets it on with Adam Grant in the movie's opening scene and later gets double teamed by Lon Flexxe and Chris Stone, putting him a total of three out of five sex scenes in the movie.
