GayVN Awards Postponed Until September (And What It Means)
The ceremony will now be held in San Francisco during the weekend of the famous Folsom Street Fair in September.
One of the most interesting things about this change is that pre-noms will remain open until June, leaving an entire year and a half of gay XXX releases for eligibility; movies made between January 1st, 2009 and May 31st, 2010.
So, for instance, unlike other ceremonies this year, Channel 1 Releasing for example will have not only their mega-movie for 2009, "Taken: To The Lowest Level," as a major contender, but also their current record breaking "Steven Daigle: XXXPosed" to potentially go up against other studios for Movie of the Year. ...Just as an example! Hypothetically! ;-)
It also means someone like Steven Daigle could even be up for Best Newcomer.
This could make for one hell of an interesting awards show. Studios generally make one big hit per year to compete with each other. Now the ones who slated big blockbusters for early in the year (like the aforementioned C1R or another example: Jet Set Men with "Getting Levi's Johnson" and the soon to be released "Jersey Score") will have twice the likelihood of sweeping the ceremonies.
Look for certain studios to start churning out big titles and PR campaigns between now and May 31st!

What it looks like is someone connected to the GayVN's is thinking of preserving the awards status!
Held in April The Grabbys would completely overshadow the GayVN's this year.
Holding them during Folsom week when you have tens of thousands of gay bois and men in town is cribbing from the Grabbys held concurrent with IML in Chicago.
Good Move I say!
I heard the same. I heard the word at GayVN was that they could not afford for the show to be a flop so they nixed the idea of having it at a Phoenix pool party and postponed it to Sept.
I wonder what this will mean for Focus/Refocus.
The studios will have to start picking favorites and promoting some movies and stars over others, just like Hollywood during the Oscars.
Who will get picked as the studio heads' favorites and who will feel snubbed?
