But what about Lucas Entertainment? I didn't include them in the last poll because they haven't been around as long as the other major studios. But they're certainly as big as the others these days and made a clean sweep at most of the award shows last year.

Lucas Entertainment has more variety in its casting, for one. And, his models are allowed to keep natural body hair and not "groomed" back into pubity. Plus, the dramatic backdrop of New York locations always add quality to any film, mainstream or porn.
Having worked for both studios in numerous productions the answer to that question is really simple. It's LaRue and her company of course. You simply can't compare Michael's low budget, shot cheaply, unknown model, films (aside from his one yearly big project) with LaRue's larger budget, well scripted, exceptionally experienced talent, crew and director's with one another. Surely Michael and his company are at the pinnacle when compared with such companies as Black Scorpion, Oh Man, Ridgeline, or other newer companies but let's not compare apples with lemon's here.
personally,i find the "edgy" quality of Lucas Entertainment" films very erotic.it is all about "chemistry",and the models in those films have it. the "high gloss" of Larue's films leave something to be desired. the "audition" series have it all.hot men,intimate surroundings,and leave us not forget the sex!! i LOVED Chichi" earlier work! however,more money does not necesserily mean better product.
To tell you the truth, I think they are BOTH overrated and obnoxious.
As a porn producer myself, I've had the displeasure of meeting them both. I was not impressed. And I'm NOT speaking out of any misplaced jealously or bitterness. I do very well myself, thank you very much.
Their movies have ALWAYS been mediocre, and they are getting more boring every day. Chi Chi's stuff is formulaic, to say the least. And Michael's stuff is over-hyped and pretentious. I was stupefied that he attempted a comedy with “The Apprentice.” How can someone with no sense of humor do a comedy, I ask you?
I'll tell you what, if you want a great filmmaker in the making, I submit Vlado Iresch from Eastern Europe. He is a JD Cadinot in the making. I think he is the best Gay porn director working right now and I am merely an amateur next to him. Unfortunately, most of his work is bareback, which I'm against; however, he has done some condom movies and is doing more as he gets better known. It's true that Michael Lucas's productions never have an overweight and eccentric drag queen staring at the models fucking in a film; and for men who get sexually turned on by that sight, what can one say?
But to claim that Lucas films except for "his one yearly big project" are "shot cheaply" using "unknown models" is completely at odds with the visible evidence in the films themselves; I'm thinking of the Encounters Series and the Fire Island Cruising Series, just for starters.
it's The Intern not the Apprentice. get it right, last poster. and i disagree with you, chi chi was talented when she was young. but weren't we all?! i could never figure out Lucas' appeal. he looks like zoolander with those cheek inplants and his dvds are badly made.

Lucas films are interesting, European and intelligent storyline, also the biggest cocks in the business. LaRue is not good anymore. Past it's prime.
I must give Chi Chi props for making "When Bears Attack." Finally, some men to ogle! I've enjoyed some of his films, but in story-line films, his "actors" are not as prepared as those of Lucas' who are given time to rehearse lines and get them right. "The Intern" is a comedy and is funny on purpose. The sex is hot and the men are manly. There is nothing "cheap" about a Michael Lucas production, this man spends money.
It all depends on what you like. Not to place Lucas on par with Channel 1 Releasing, Falcon, Raging Stallion, etc. is catty and vile. That would be equivilent to comparing Chi Chi LaRue's company to Bacchus Releasing!
I would said, Lucas videos are made with taste and much more sexappeal, It's a big turn on for me to watch Mr. Lucas making out with all thoses guys.
