It has been said that porn stars are not supposed to be role models, but many have begged to differ.
If there was a such thing as the "porn star role model," they'd be pretty easy to find in the straight side of the industry (that will be tomorrow's poll), but I was hard pressed to find the sex education advocates like Nina Hartley and the doctors of medicine like Sharon Mitchell when it comes to the pool of gay porn stars.
To be honest, it's difficult just to find people who are consistently nice.
Being a role model takes much more than having created your own company and made it as a successful businessman. Being a role model can include everything from being someone who speaks out on important issues to just being one of the most kind and generous people in the business.
So here's our Top Five and why it's time for you to decide between them:

Although Ryan Idol's Broadway debut is an accomplishment, let us not forget the FIRST gay porn legend, Casey Donovan, who played the same role as Idol in the 1983 revival of "The Ritz" (and also appeared in several other shows in the 1970s).

Jason -- Well, Casey Donovan was the first gay XXX celebrity and therefore the Father of Us All, pre-AIDS, pre-fundamentalist takeover of the U.S.
"Boys in the Sand" played to packed houses, it was reviewed in mainstream publications, it was THE hot movie to watch, the one everyone HAD to see. No other gay porn film has achieved that level of cultural impact (Michael Lucas will get there someday, probably.)
And, of course, Casey Donovan was a legendary slut and loved every second of it. Unapologetically gay, too. He really set the template and it's too bad he's forgotten today because he did it all first.

Dearest anonymous -- Chad Donovan was named after CHAD Douglas and Casey DONOVAN, so yeah, you could say they're related/affiliated.
Tony D. was named after Chad D., who was named after Casey D. So yeah, they're related/affiliated, too, once removed.
